We stayed as a family of three on Monday, March 23, 2026. We had stayed in Kirishima before, but after hearing in a Review that the baths were wonderful, we chose this Accommodation for the first time. We were amazed at how beautifully Sakurajima could be seen from Kirishima. From the main building’s open-air bath, we could also see Sakurajima at sunset—an excellent soak. One family member has difficulty walking, so we gave up our reserved private bath “Akamatsu-no-Yu” and switched to a private bath inside the main building instead; it was a semi-open-air bath and very relaxing. The design of the bath was tasteful, and since it was cherry blossom season, we enjoyed fully blooming sakura while listening to Japanese bush warblers—we went in twice. The meals were delicious and very satisfying. This has become one of the Accommodations we would like to visit again.

Throughout our stay, we could feel the Accommodation’s pride and dignity in every detail, and it was a truly fulfilling experience. First, what deserves special mention is the thoroughness of the Room cleaning. Everything was carefully arranged down to the smallest detail, and the spotless space—without a speck of dust—made us feel that the fundamentals of an Accommodation were being upheld at an exceptionally high standard. We were also deeply impressed by the grace of the attendant’s service. Though she was young, she wore traditional attire, moved quietly with no wasted motion, and spoke with gentle refinement. In each gesture we sensed a polished spirit of hospitality; imagining how much effort she must have put in even brought tears to my eyes. (This old man is easily moved.) And above all, what was most outstanding was the exceptional quality of the cuisine. With generous use of premium ingredients, every aspect—the presentation, depth of flavor, and expression of seasonality—was superb. More than anything, I felt that what sustains this high level of service—and its true cornerstone—is the proprietress’s attitude. She consistently leads from the front, encouraging and guiding her staff. I was profoundly moved. These days, Accommodations like this are becoming rare. My wife and I are already talking about returning again in autumn. This is a genuinely outstanding Accommodation where you can experience Japan’s traditional beauty and refined elegance without exaggeration.

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at this quiet Accommodation on a small hill called Izusan. The location is outstanding, overlooking the town of Atami and the calm sea. As I was traveling with my elderly mother, we made a Reservation for a Room with an open-air bath. We were told it was on the first floor of the guest building. Since there was no elevator from the second-floor lobby, we managed by using the stairs, and we truly appreciated that wheelchairs were prepared at both stair landings between the second and first floors. Without us even asking, they also brought a caregiving bath chair to our Room, as well as a chair to sit on when putting on shoes. The open-air bath in the Room had handrails, and the interior was flat throughout, so my mother felt safe and comfortable and was very pleased. We chose breakfast only, and it was delicious and very filling—fresh local vegetables, eggs, yogurt, and more. This became a rare and valuable Accommodation where I could stay together with my mother while caregiving. I would love to visit again.

I had been interested in this Accommodation for some time, and this time we stayed to celebrate my son’s birthday. They took a family photo for us and showed thoughtful care in many ways. Thank you. I think this is an Accommodation where you can relax and enjoy delicious meals at a leisurely pace while having drinks. The timing of the meal service matched our eating pace perfectly. We also received warm, attentive service that made us feel very comfortable. I’m the type who likes to chat with the staff about the food and local area, and they kindly answered my questions, which made it a pleasure. We tried all of the baths. The views from the private open-air family baths on the 3rd and 5th floors were beautiful. Both the sunrise and sunset were wonderful. The soothing sound of the waves is wonderful. Both the open-air large public bath and the uniquely themed private family baths are filled with the scent of the sea—perhaps because seawater minerals blend into the Hashiri-yu hot spring. Drinks in the bar lounge after your bath and café service in the morning lounge were perfectly timed, with exactly what we wanted when we wanted it. We’d love to visit again and again.

Extending our trip to Shodoshima was absolutely worth it—this was an Accommodation that truly made us glad we came. Of course, the Room was spacious with no sense of confinement, and it was clean and comfortable. Beyond that, the calm sea stretching out beyond the window felt wonderfully refreshing, and we enjoyed the soothing sound of the waves and seabirds. The private baths (both indoor and outdoor) were relaxing, and after bathing several kinds of drinks are offered as a complimentary service. The olive kaiseki dinner, served over nearly two hours, features carefully prepared seafood from Shodoshima and nearby waters along with meat, vegetables, fruit, and more—beautifully presented on elegant tableware—and each dish can be enjoyed with Shodoshima-produced olive oil. Sitting side by side at sea-facing seats while taking in the view with our meal and wine was outstanding. It was also nice that there was no music or unnecessary noise. The menu is designed to be flipped page by page for each dish—a small touch that adds to the enjoyment. Breakfast also offers a wide variety of items. Once you taste it, you can tell quality ingredients are being used throughout. We joined an evening tour of about an hour to visit Goishiyama (the second sacred site on Shodoshima). On the round-trip microbus ride, we were given explanations about Shodoshima’s industries and history, which deepened our understanding of the island. The night view from Goishiyama left a strong impression. With warm hospitality and pleasant service—and an experience that lets you fully enjoy Shodoshima—this is an Accommodation we came to love.

We stayed here to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. The staff’s heartfelt hospitality, the wonderful baths, delicious meals, and comfortable, easy-to-use Room—everything was excellent.
